ANGEL National Conference 2024: A Beacon of Knowledge, Unity, and Excellence
Kota Bharu, 23rd January 2024 – In a collaborative endeavor between ANGEL UMK and ANGEL UTHM, the ANGEL National Conference 2024 unfolded as a pivotal platform for discussions on the direction of green and sustainable entrepreneurship. The event took place physically in Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) on 23rd January 2024, and was broadcast live from UMK’s Facebook Page. Industry players, leaders, and academics converged to explore the challenges and opportunities within the realm of sustainable business practices.

The conference commenced with a welcome address and inauguration by Prof. Dr. Arham Abdullah, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), UMK.

Prof. Madya Dr. Noor Yasmin Zainun (UTHM) shared insights during the opening session on “Sustainable Food Waste Management using Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL).”

The Green Entrepreneurship and Leadership Forum, moderated by Ts. Dr. Muhammad Asyraf Hasim (UTHM) and featuring speakers Puan Anja Juliah (Athena Holdings Sdn. Bhd.), Puan Wan Sabariah (Nature Profusion Sdn. Bhd.), and Prof. Dr. Mohd Rafi Yaacob (UMK), was a resounding success.

UTHM ANGEL Bootcamp Ignites Green Entrepreneurial Spirit in Local Community
Batu Pahat, 18th January 2024 – In a spirited pursuit of cultivating green entrepreneurship, 25 participants, including single mothers, female entrepreneurs from Johor, and UTHM students, have enthusiastically joined the UTHM ANGEL Bootcamp, situated at the Conference Room, Block F6, UTHM. The objective of this program is to instil knowledge, skills, and confidence in participants regarding green entrepreneurship. Also, the program aimed to provide practical experiences in creating business opportunities with a focus on green elements and sustainable practices.
The exution of this bootcamp was initiated by Associate Professor Dr. Siti Sarah Omar, the Head of the ANGEL UTHM Grant Project, and with substantial collaboration from the University Technopreneur Centre (PTU) under the leadership of Dr. Nasuha Saude, PTU Director. The program has enlisted the support of five ANGEL Mentors. These mentors, including Associate Professor Dr. Shafie Mohamed Zabri, Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Noor Yasmin Zainun, Dr. Mohd Yussni Mohd Hashim, Dr. Muhammad Asyraf Hasim, and Mr. Azani, WHO actively assisted participants in exploring innovative ideas during brainstorming sessions.

Four dynamic groups - Plustick, KuCharge, Planeteers, and Elaise - presented their ideas with an emphasis on the symbiosis between entrepreneurship and environmental sustainability.

The first-place winner, Team Plustick, will represent UTHM at the ANGEL International Conference in June 2024.

The second-place winner was Team KuCharge, the third-place winner was Team Planeteers, and the fourth-place winner was Team Elaise.

Participants also had the opportunity to hear the experiences of Ms. Wan Sabariah Shuib, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Nature Profusion Sdn Bhd, who shared realistic insights into the world of green business.

Green Business Idea Pitching Competition, co-sponsored by UTHM ANGEL and P&G-UTHM Consulting Group
Batu Pahat, 18th October 2023 - The Business Idea Pitching Competition, hosted by the Johor Business School and proudly sponsored by UTHM ANGEL, welcomed the participation of students from UTHM's Foster School - SMK Suria Perdana. The competition is jointly sponsored by the P&G Project Consultant Group, under the leadership of Prof Dr Wan Fauziah Wan Yusoff, and the Department of Business Management, led by Dr Noor Aslinda Abu Seman. The event was held at Dewan Lestari 2, located within the Tunku Tun Aminah Library, UTHM. The Business Idea Pitching Competition was a platform for the participants to present their business ideas to the judges. This competition sought to unlock teens' entrepreneurial potential and foster innovation and leadership. The competition allowed students to suggest green product business ideas, highlighting the need for environmental sustainability and lasting, positive change. Additionally, the competition aimed to teach participants how to pitch a business professionally, ethically, and accurately while considering Malaysian culture's diverse ethnic and religious compositions.

The event commenced with an opening remark by Ts Dr Muhammad Asyraf Hasim, the Project Director for the Business Idea Pitching Competition. His insights set the tone for a day of creativity, innovation, and ethical business practices. A total of 30 students participated in the competition, forming five groups. Each group presented their innovative ideas for environmentally sustainable businesses, showcasing their entrepreneurial skills and demonstrating their ability to think creatively. Their ideas were evaluated based on various criteria, including content, presentation, and ethical considerations. The panel of judges, consisting of distinguished individuals in the respective field, played a pivotal part in the competition assessment. Dr Mohd Yussni bin Hashim, a faculty member at UTHM, Encik Wan Muhammad Idham bin Wan Mahdi, representing Genesys Eco Resources, and Puan Hajah Hairani binti Razali, a senior teacher in Technical and Vocational Education, provided significant expertise and experience to their respective positions.

As the event came to a close, Prof Madya Dr Shafie bin Mohamed Zabri, the Dean of the Faculty of Technology Management and Business, delivered a closing speech. His speech also included the highly anticipated prize-giving ceremony, where the winning teams were recognized for their outstanding ideas and presentation skills. Sowing Seeds of Sustainability: UTHM ANGEL’s Green Entrepreneurship Training Program in Local Community
Batu Pahat, 20th September 2023 – The UTHM ANGEL successfully conducted a training program on green entrepreneurship for secondary school students. This program was carried out as part of the UTHM ANGEL’s agenda of engaging the local community to promote and advocate the concept of green entrepreneurship and leadership. The program occurred at SMK Suria Perdana, located in Parit Raja, and was attended by 50 students. The training program designed for the local community is centred around promoting sustainable development and economic empowerment. This is achieved by enhancing participants’ understanding of the importance of environmental sustainability and motivating them to incorporate eco-friendly practices into their future entrepreneurial endeavours.
The program featured three trainers from the UTHM ANGEL team: Dr Muhammad Asyraf Hasim, Dr Mohd Yussni Hashim, and Dr Umi Kartini Rashid, who covered topics on green business components, sustainable business practices and green marketing. Upon the completion of this training session, UTHM ANGEL anticipates more involvement and engagement activities with other community members. The implementation of such a program will contribute to the overall empowerment of the local community by providing them with the necessary information, skills, and resources to create and sustain environmentally responsible businesses. Ultimately, this undertaking strives to promote the growth of the local economy and support the creation of job opportunities.
ANGEL Green Entrepreneurship Training Program: Empowering UTHM’s Academic and Administrative Staff
Batu Pahat – The UTHM ANGEL Team successfully hosted the Green Entrepreneurship Training Program for UTHM staff on July 10th and 11th. The delivery of this program is facilitated by the University Technopreneurship Centre (PTU) conjointly with the Centre for Leadership and Competence (CLC). 17 people from different departments and faculties participated in the two-day program, which was held in the PTTA Information Search Room. The training was delivered by UTHM ANGEL Trainers and consisted of five modules: Module 1: Green Business Components by Trainer Assoc Prof Dr Siti Sarah Omar, Module 2: Developing a Green Business by Trainer Dr Mohd Yussni Hashim, Module 3: Start-Up Basics by Trainer Assoc Prof Dr Noor Yasmin Zainun, Module 4: Fundamentals of Green Finance by Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Shafie Zabri, Module 5: Green Marketing by Trainer Dr Muhammad Asyraf Hasim.
Implementing this training program aims to enhance the capacity of UTHM’s Academic and Administrative Staff's capacity to promote sustainable and environmentally conscious entrepreneurship. This initiative is expected to significantly contribute towards fostering a greener and more sustainable future within the university communities. The program facilitates the comprehension of various aspects of sustainable business practises, the formulation of sustainable business strategies, and the provision of knowledge on sustainable finance and marketing, which align with UTHM’s aspiration to establish itself as a prominent Global Technopreneur University (GTU) by the year 2030.
ANGEL Green Entrepreneurship Training (Session 2)
Batu Pahat – On June 14th, trainers of the UTHM ANGEL Team delivered training on Green Entrepreneurship Awareness to students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing. Thirty-five students were educated on the significance of sustainable practices, aiming to motivate them to create business ventures that prioritize environmental consciousness. Through imparting knowledge on green entrepreneurship, sustainable business models, and green technologies, UTHM is enabling students who can devise inventive, environmentally-friendly solutions to tackle urgent ecological issues. The training program acts as an instrument to encourage students to adopt sustainability in their entrepreneurial pursuits, thereby advancing a more ecologically sound and sustainable future.

UTHM ANGEL Innovate Unit Signboard
Unveiled
The unveiling of the ANGEL Innovate Unit signboard on the university campus demonstrates the university’s efforts to promote environmentally sustainable entrepreneurial initiatives. This occasion was a much-anticipated event that attracted a lot of interest from students and university members. The signboard, which symbolizes the university’s commitment to developing a green entrepreneurship ecosystem, is installed at the student incubation hub managed by the University Technopreneur Center. The ANGEL Innovate Unit serves as an enabler in promoting entrepreneurial mindsets among students, researchers, and the local community who aspire to transform their concepts into tangible products or services.
Sharing Session On Erasmus+ Capacity Building For Higher Education (CBHE) Research Fund
Batu Pahat – ANGEL Project Coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rosmini Omar, Dean of Azman Hashim International Business School, UTM shared in-depth knowledge of the ERASMUS+ CBHE Research Fund with UTHM researchers on 8 February 2023 at Conference Room 1, RMC UTHM. This program was also attended by UTHM Research Management Centre (RMC) Director, Prof. Dr. Nafarizal Nayan, the UTHM RMC Deputy Director, Dr. Saizalmursidi Md Mustam, UTHM ANGEL Project Leader, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Sarah Omar, UTHM ANGEL members, and UTHM researchers from various fields.
ANGEL Innovate Unit Mini Lab Set Up
Batu Pahat – Mini lab for UTHM ANGEL Innovate Unit has been set up at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. Currently, the first batch equipment consists of six HP Pavilion 24-ca1012d AiO Desktop Personal Computers and two HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M282nw Printers for training and workshop purposes are arranged nicely for the lab. This lab will be utilised by researchers, trainers, and the community for various ANGEL-related activities, including workshops, short-term courses, and training involving green entrepreneurship.
Train the Trainer Workshop @ UTMKL
Four researchers, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Sarah Omar, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Noor Yasmin Zainun, Dr. Mohd Yussni Hashim, and Ts. Dr. Muhammad Asyraf Hasim represented Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) at the Train the Trainers for Erasmus+ Capacity Building for Higher Education: ASEAN Network for Green Entrepreneurship and Leadership (ANGEL) Workshop at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM KL) starting on 21 November 2022 and ending on 25 November 2022.

UTHM ANGEL Team consists of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Sarah Omar, Dr. Mohd Yussni Hashim, dan Ts. Dr. Muhammad Asyraf Hasim attended the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Workshop organised by the Center for Leadership and Competency in collaboration with the Institute of Social Transformation and Regional Development (TRANSFORM) at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. The workshop was delivered by Ms. Zoel Ng Yuet Yeng, and Dr. Oswald Timothy Edward from the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia On The Sustainable Development Goals (APPGM-SDG).
New equipement for the project!
UTHM ANGEL Received First Batch of Research Equipment for ANGEL Innovate Unit - Six HP Pavilion 24-ca1012d AiO Desktop Personal Computers and two HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M282nw Printers for training and workshop purposes were received by UTHM ANGEL Innovate Unit on 1 December 2022.
The first batch of acquired electronic equipment was successfully delivered to UTHM ANGEL Technical Chief, Dr. Mohd Nazir Mohd Adi, Grant Leader, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Sarah Omar, and UTHM ANGEL Research Assistance, Ms. Nurul Fadzilla Mohd Aris. The equipment will be located in Building F3 UTHM and placed under University Technopreneur Centre (PTU).
